NZ String Quartet

Presenting our 2026 Season: Storytellers. For our Anthology concerts we’re bringing together the best pieces of music from the year into one programme.

Behind every piece of music is a story and across their 2026 Season, the New Zealand String Quartet is diving into them. For their return to The Sound Lounge they’ll spend the evening exploring a rich cross-section of compositional voices and celebrating the art of storytelling through music. Hobnail

Hobnail formed in 1994 with little ambition beyond playing a few shows and drinking a few beers. 32 years later and they have travelled from Porirua to Pittsburgh, New Plymouth to Norfolk Island, Auckland to Amsterdam, Germany to Gore, the Canadian Prairies to the Canterbury Plains. They have released 8 studio albums and a “Best Of” collection, played over 1,000 shows and made at least 100 trips across Cook Strait. There have been hundreds of flights, and somewhere north of 250,000 km’s in the tour van. They are 3 time finalists at the NZ Music Awards. In 2025 Hobnail released their 8th album “Three Part” and toured throughout New Zealand. They don’t plan to slow down any time soon.

A Venue for House Concerts

We’re pleased to offer our home to present live music in Te Pahū. As well as concerts we’ve also enjoyed theatre performances and art exhibitions.

We’ve been entertained by a wide range of musical styles – and been wowed by the amazing skills and musicality of the travelling minstrals.

It’s the home of Sylvia’s Toaster ukulele band, and practices are held here most Wednesdays.

When not in use for performances the room is our lounge – however it was built for use as a small theatre, music room and library. There are good acoustics by way of its shape and use of irregular sized timber, and shelves of books. There’s a projector and stage lights. Seating is casual – lounge suites, chairs, some old theatre seats, beanbags and carpets.

Audience size has ranged from about 15 to over 80. Entrance is by donation – all proceeds go to the performers.

There is a housetruck, small caravan and room available for accomodation.
